The Subject of Kissing in Relationship, Courtship and Marriage

I have dealt with this topic before but the question keeps coming up in nearly all the meetings I hold, and so I want to revisit this issue again.

Is kissing a sin? That is a question on the lips of many young people who are serving God, but cannot seem to keep away from kissing each other as an expression of their love.

True to it, and as a counselor, I know there are many Christians who are doing this regularly. As a young man myself in courtship, I never had jeru trip with my fiancée then, but I kissed her a few times and I really felt guilty about it. In fact, the feeling I had was that the Holy Spirit was grieved at it. So, I am not oblivious of what you are going through exactly.

Now, having been married for some years, about sixteen years, I can tell you, that the strong urge to kiss as singles is just more of the devil trying to trip you than an expression of love! Folks in western countries might find this ridiculous as well, since they are more liberal and they often greet as well with no lust attached. 

Some of us go ahead and quote the scripture to justify this act. Well, in a very a straight forward way, you will never find a scripture that forbids kissing or that says, “thou shall not kiss.” In fact what you find are scriptures that seems to be encouraging kissing, and that in the New Testament!

All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss. (1 Corinthians 16:20 KJV)

Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you. (Romans 16:16 KJV)

Doesn’t this mean that God wants us to kiss?

The instruction to kiss that we see in the above verses and in some more places are verses that we have to consider in their cultural contexts.

The Jews usually kiss one another with a kiss, somewhat on the cheek and not a direct mouth-to-mouth kiss or some French kiss!

This is why Judas kissed Jesus Christ. He was just greeting him. It’s like a handshake.

And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him. (Luke 22:47 KJV)

Kisses with Jews as described above is a form of greeting in their culture, hence Paul termed it as Holy Kissing.

In Nigeria, we don’t kiss one another with a kiss. Hence, the Jewish kiss is holy, but the Nigerian kiss is not holy! In non–Jewish states, a kiss outside wedlock between two people who are in love, behind closed doors will not be holy because it will lead to some unholy things!

The initial kiss might even be holy, but after a while, the law of progression will step in and before you know it, kissing will lead to some other things.

If I come into a meeting with my wife and an usher grabs my wife and plants a kiss on her, I will remove my suit and fight! Why? We don’t greet each other with some mouth-to-mouth kiss! If your handshake dey too long sef, I fit suspect you, not to talk of a kiss!

If you and your fiancée are kissing each other behind the church and as your pastor, I bump into you, who will apologise? It’s you! If as your Pastor, I’m kissing my wife behind the church, and you bump into us, who will still apologise? It is still you! Because we are married!

You see after marriage, if you want to kiss yourself 24 hours a day for the next one month; God is okay with it! Why? Your body belongs to each other! But after marriage, you will know that it is not all about kissing! It is about school fees, and house rent and pampers! You won’t feel like kissing all the time! So why would you want to jeopardise your relationship with God with what you can do as long as you want eventually?

The idea of holding on is where maturity is, and it is all about self-control. This is what separates the boys from the men! Ability to delay gratification!

Young ladies, when a guy comes and says, “let’s kiss,” you don’t submit your lips like you are submitting paper in examination hall. The power of life and death lies in your mouth! If the guy is hungry, why must it be your mouth that he would eat? If he is really hungry, doesn’t he know where they sell Kpomo (treated cowhide) in the market?

For married people, feel free to kiss yourselves! If your spouse loves it, then go ahead and give it! It won’t be a sin!

But for singles, always have this at the back of your mind that when you are in love, what you did with him or her, the last time you met will not satisfy you the next time! It is a law, so you need to consciously guard against that.

Finally, let me say, it is not wise to meet somebody and the next thing is that you are kissing! There are people you kiss, and your jaws are locked. There
are people you kiss, and as it were, you cannot pray again. There are strange mouths you kiss for five minutes, and it leads to regrets for the next five years! There are people you kiss, and your destiny is arrested. If you doubt that, ask Jesus, for it was the kiss of Judas that led to his arrest!

4. CARELESS SLEEPING: Everyone has talk about it on how you sleep in friends house both guys and girls. it is very dangerous because you don't know the devilish one who may have lust-thought about you and get down on your knee.

5. DON'T HAVE BORING MOMENT: Never left alone at home or anywhere feeling boredom, because as you have a boring moment many thought will be coming to your heart and which emotional thought may involved.

6. DON'T TALK TOO MUCH WHEN GISTING: Someone that is talkative, will say lesser truth than lies and she can start boosting and talking about her virginity things among friends just to justify herself.

One Direction Are Triple Winners At 2014 American Music Awards

One Direction had a night to remember at the 2014 American Music Awards on Sunday after walking away with a trio of top honours, including Artist of the Year.
The British/Irish stars claimed the first prize of the Los Angeles event for Favorite Band, Duo Or Group – Pop/Rock and then added Favorite Pop/Rock Album for Midnight Memories and Artist of the Year, just hours after learning its new release Four had hit the top of the U.K. albums chart.
Accepting the first title, Liam Payne told the audience, “It’s been a real perfect (sic) day for us, our album’s just come out and we got a number one in the U.K. and now we’re stood here with an AMA.
“It’s absolutely amazing… America feels like a second home to us now, it’s been amazing how well we’ve been received out here so thank you so, so much.”
Katy Perry was also a triple winner – she and Sam Smith reigned supreme as the favorite pop/rock solo artists, with the Firework hitmaker accepting her award in a pre-taped speech from Australia, where she is currently on tour. She also claimed Single of the Year for Dark Horse and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist.
Iggy Azalea, who led the nominees with six, only walked away with two trophies after beating Drake and Eminem in both the rap/hip-hop categories for best artist and best album for her debut The New Classic.
Music legend Diana Ross was on hand to pay tribute to “the beautiful and talented” Taylor Swift, who she branded “a true superstar” as she presented the 24 year old with the inaugural Dick Clark Award for Excellence, an accolade named after beloved late TV and radio host Dick Clark.
Paying back the compliments in her acceptance speech, Swift said, “I’m so blown away to have just received an award from Diana Ross who, just over the course of her career, stood up for herself in a time when it was not popular for a woman to stand up for herself. I’m so honored. Thank you for coming, you’re beautiful.
“Dick Clark was a visionary… I’m so unbelievably ecstatic that his family chose to honor me and that the AMAs chose to honor me with this.”
Swift also underlined her argument for recently removing her songs from music-streaming service Spotify, telling her fans, “Lastly you, you guys. To the fans who went out and bought over a million copies of my last three albums, what you did by going out and investing in music and albums, is you are saying you believe in the same thing that I believe in, that music is valuable, and that music should be consumed in albums and that albums should be consumed as art and appreciated, and I appreciate you so much.”
Swift kicked off the ceremony with the first live performance of her new song Blank Space, but the show was all about collaborations between the likes of Sam Smith and A$AP Rocky, Magic! and Wyclef Jean, Lil Wayne and his rumored girlfriend Christina Milian, event host Pitbull and Ne-Yo, Bang Bang stars Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande and Jessie J, and Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea, who closed out the big show with a sexy rendition of Booty.
Other performance highlights at the Nokia Theater L.A. Live came from One Direction, New Artist of the Year winners 5 Seconds of Summer, Lorde, Fergie and Selena Gomez, who poured out her emotions in The Heart Wants What It Wants, about her on/off relationship with Justin Bieber.
The ceremony was hosted by rapper Pitbull for the second consecutive year.

The blast went off at a Senior Science Secondary School, Potiskum. Armed military forces have moved in and cordoned off the area although the casualty figure is not known yet.

A new study by dating website (eHarmony) has identified the five stages of love as butterflies, building, assimilation, honesty and stability.

Participants in the study were asked to complete a psychological test to determine their true feelings. They were asked questions about their behaviour and lifestyle, in order to uncover the impact love has on a person’s health at each stage.

The chief executive of tech giant, Apple (Timothy D. Cook)has announced that he is “proud to be gay” in an essay published earlier yesterday (Thursday, October 30), making him the most prominent executive of a public company to come out.

Mr. Cook (53) had never spoken publicly about his sexual orientation in the many years he has worked in the spotlight at Apple.

In his essay, Mr. Cook also noted that he had spent much of his life trying to keep his personal matters private, which is why he had not previously spoken in public about his sexual orientation.
