
One Direction had a night to remember at the 2014 American Music Awards, winning three top honors, including Artist of the Year.
The British/Irish stars won Favorite Band, Duo Or Group – Pop/Rock, Favorite Pop/Rock Album for "Midnight Memories," and Artist of the Year. They celebrated their new release "Four" hitting the top of the U.K. albums chart.
Liam Payne expressed their gratitude, saying, "It’s been an amazing day for us, our album just came out and we got a number one in the U.K. and now we’re here with an AMA. America feels like a second home to us now, thank you so much."
Katy Perry also won three awards, including Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Single of the Year for "Dark Horse," and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist. She accepted her awards in a pre-taped speech from Australia.
Iggy Azalea, who led the nominees with six, won two trophies for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for "The New Classic."
Music legend Diana Ross presented Taylor Swift with the inaugural Dick Clark Award for Excellence, honoring her contributions to the music industry. Swift expressed her gratitude, highlighting the importance of music as an art form.
The ceremony featured performances by various artists, including One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer, Lorde, Fergie, and Selena Gomez. The event was hosted by rapper Pitbull for the second consecutive year.
