Rihanna has confirmed she is back together
with her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown and warned she will leave him for good
if he ever hits her again.
The couple’s romance ended in 2009 after the Kiss Kiss star viciously
attacked the singer in a bust-up on the eve of the Grammy Awards. Brown
was convicted of assaulting Rihanna and remains on probation for the
crime, but they have grown close again over the last few months,
sparking rumors they had revived their relationship.
The Umbrella star has now confirmed she is giving Brown another chance,
but the singer is adamant she will walk away if he ever gets violent
with her again.
She tells Rolling Stone magazine, “He doesn’t have the luxury of f**king
up again. That’s just not an option. I can’t say that nothing else will
ever go wrong. But I’m pretty solid in the knowing that he’s disgusted
by that (the fight). And I wouldn’t have gone this far if I ever thought
that was a possibility…
“When you add up the pieces from the outside, it’s not the cutest puzzle
in the world… But it’s different now. We don’t have those types of
arguments anymore. We talk about s**t (stuff). We value each other. We
know exactly what we have now, and we don’t want to lose that.”
Rihanna knows many fans will be unhappy with her decision to go back to a
man who beat her, but she is adamant public opinion won’t sway her
decision: “I wanted him to know what it felt like to lose me. To feel
the consequences of that… But I got real with myself, and I just
couldn’t bury the way I felt… I decided it was more important for me to
be happy, and I wasn’t going to let anybody’s opinion get in the way of
that. Even if it’s a mistake, it’s my mistake. After being tormented for
so many years, being angry and dark, I’d rather just live my truth and
take the backlash. I can handle it.”
Brown found himself back in the headlines this month over accusations he
was involved in a violent altercation with fellow singer Frank Ocean in
California on Sunday. Brown has been named in a battery report and is
wanted for questioning by police.
